Not all modern first dance songs stand the test of time. The current list of favourite wedding dance songs is based on songs wedding couples have chosen to dance to from as early as 1998. Some of them are old classics that are considered amongst the best first dance songs ever.
Favourite wedding dance songs are tunes that appear regularly in the list of potential first dance songs for around 45-50% of wedding couples. They have three things in common:
1. they are recognised by both the couple and the guests
2. the lyrics are suitable for and fitting to a wedding occasion
3. one in three wedding couples end up selecting from favourite first dance songs list
When I first started to put together this particular wedding dance songs list, it had only 20 songs. Over time these first dance song classics became 40, then 60 and more will come, for sure.
It's amazing how some of these tunes have stood the test of time as wedding dance songs. You cannot go wrong picking up from these tunes, be it modern first dance songs or good old classics.
If you take a look at the list, you'll be hard pressed to pick up only one. From Andy William's Can't Take My Eyes Off You to Billy Joel's I Love You Just the Way You Are, they are all lovely to both listen and dance to.
